Rich Holdsworth, CTO, talks about Wapple Canvas™, the leading Mobile Publishing Platform

I conceptualised the idea of a system capable of designing and publishing mobile sites back in 2003, pre-Wapple, when we were selling mobile content over WAP. In those days I had to hard-code each page that was delivered. What a headache it was! I wished I could just upload site content easily and dynamically. I was reminded of my days in Video Games Production when life was easy - my team could control game settings without hassling the programmers for finite changes such as the distance and speed a rocket could fire.

I started work on a CMS as soon as I was able to. This CMS quickly turned into a template site builder and over time evolved based on the needs of our growing customer base.

The first truly dynamic system Wapple developed was called Wapple Console, launched in 2005 - we (I then had a team to support me) learned a great deal from its existence and the way in which it was being used.

Wapple Canvas™

Wapple Canvas™ was a complete regeneration of Console, launched in March 2007 and capable of scaling to mass usage across the world. New features have been continually included thus adding to the value it provides to our customers.

How it Works

There are thousands of people using Wapple Canvas™ and the majority of them use it in its simplest form to create a nice looking, consumer-interactive, presence on the mobile internet. Richer features are there for the discovery of the power user and we provide a great deal of support documentation inside Canvas.

In essence a site's pages are built out of what we call 'Chunks' - think of Chunks as building blocks that you stack up in any order. Chunks have their own settings that you configure to display what you need them to.

A chunk could be a logo graphic, an external banner advert or even a content download, amongst many other chunks that are available in Wapple Canvas™ packs.

Wapple Canvas™ couldn't be easier to use with point-and-click and drag-and-drop controls.

I am so proud of what we have achieved with our technology because our customers are able to create their own engaging mobile sites by themselves without having any programming skills and without having to worry about how their site will display on each of the thousands of devices in use today.
